Our recommendation
Choose the Atmos AG 65 for the best-ventilated, most comfortable carry up to 45 lb. Choose the Baltoro 65 when loads exceed 45 lb or you prioritize bombproof durability. Most backpackers will be happier with the Atmos; heavy haulers need the Baltoro.
Suspension philosophy
The Atmos suspends the load on tensioned mesh for maximum ventilation; the Baltoro pivots its harness with your body for maximum load control. Both are excellent engineering, aimed at different problems: heat versus weight.
Load range
Baltoro rated to 55 lb versus Atmos to 50 lb, but the practical split is lower: the Baltoro stays comfortable past 45 lb where the Atmos begins to feel its limits. Under 35 lb both are superb and the Atmos's ventilation wins.
Weight and ventilation
Atmos AG 65 at 4 lb 11 oz versus Baltoro 65 at 4 lb 14 oz is nearly identical on paper, but the Atmos feels cooler on the trail thanks to its mesh back. The Baltoro's foam back is warmer but more durable.
