Robot mower failures are overwhelmingly environmental: stuck on obstacles, lost positioning, or dock contact issues. These fixes address the common causes before you assume a defective unit.

Mower gets stuck in the same spot

Walk the stuck route and look for what the sensors see: ruts, roots, soft mulch, or a slope lip. Fill ruts with topsoil, add a no-go zone around the trap in the app, or lay a paver path through chronic mud. Repeated stucks in one spot are always a terrain fix, never a settings fix.

Mower cannot find the charging dock

Clear the dock approach: the mower needs a straight few feet of open space to align. Check that the dock has power (LED indicators), the charging contacts are clean and not corroded, and the guide wire or GPS home point is intact. Re-run the dock calibration in the app after moving anything.

Wire-free mower drifts or mows outside boundaries

Drift means degraded positioning: check the RTK base station or GPS reference for a clear sky view, as new tree growth or a moved patio umbrella can block signals. Redrive the boundary after any landscape change, and keep a one-foot margin inside beds and paths until accuracy is verified.

Battery drains fast or will not hold charge

Short runtime in an older mower usually means battery end of life, typically year 4 to 6; replacement packs are a standard service part. In a new mower, check for drag: dull blades, clogged deck, or constant slope climbing all spike consumption. Clean the deck, swap blades, and verify the slope rating covers the terrain.

Questions, answered

Why does it miss patches of grass?

Narrow passages below the mower minimum width get skipped; widen gates between zones or accept trimmer duty there. Also check that zones actually cover the area in the app map; redriven boundaries sometimes shrink.

How often should I clean it?

Weekly in growing season: clear the deck of clippings, wipe sensors and cameras, check wheels for wrapped grass. Five minutes prevents most stuck and navigation complaints.

Should I store it in winter?

Yes in freezing climates: clean it, charge the battery to about half or full per the manual, and store the mower (and base station electronics) in a garage or shed. Cold storage with a dead battery kills packs.
