LiftMaster 84505R Secure View Smart Garage Opener Review (2027)
In-depth review of the LiftMaster 84505R: ultra-quiet belt drive, 130-degree camera, myQ, and Amazon Key delivery.
LiftMaster 84505R Secure View Smart Garage Opener
Ultra-quiet belt drive with a built-in camera, two-way talk, and Amazon Key delivery.
Our verdict
The 84505R is the Secure View formula tuned for delivery-era garages: an ultra-quiet belt drive, a built-in 130-degree camera with two-way talk, and Amazon Key enabled from the factory. It omits the battery backup its bigger 87504 sibling includes, so outage-prone homes should note the gap, but for camera-verified deliveries in an attached garage it is a complete package.
What we like
- Built-in camera with a 130-degree wide-angle view and two-way communication through myQ
- Ultra-quiet belt drive with a DC motor suits garages under living space
- Amazon Key in-garage delivery enabled, with myQ connected control and diagnostics
- Integrated dual LED lighting at 1500 lumens, Security+ 2.0, and PosiLock
What to watch out for
- Battery backup is not included
- Stored video history requires a myQ subscription plan
- Pro-channel model; retail bundle contents vary by seller
What owners report: LiftMaster 84505R Secure View Smart Garage Opener
Synthesized from recurring themes in long-term owner feedback.
Most praised
- A wide camera view with two way talk makes delivery watching practical from one device
- Ultra quiet belt running suits garages under bedrooms while still handling daily family use
- Factory delivery enablement plus strong door security features cover the modern brief
Common complaints
- Battery backup is not in the box, leaving outage access as a gap in an otherwise complete package
- Recorded video history needs a paid plan through the app ecosystem
- Retail bundle contents vary by seller because it is a pro channel model
Who it is for
Homeowners who receive Amazon deliveries in the garage and want camera verification with quiet belt operation.
Camera and delivery workflow
The integrated camera covers a 130-degree field of view, wide enough to watch the door, the delivery, and most of a two-car garage, with two-way communication through the myQ app when you need to speak to the driver. Amazon Key is enabled on the unit, so enrolled deliveries open the door, drop the package, and close up with the event on record.
Drive and lighting
The belt drive and DC motor are rated ultra-quiet by LiftMaster, the right specification for garages under bedrooms, and the dual LED system puts out 1500 lumens of corner lighting. Security+ 2.0 rolling codes and PosiLock, which resists forced entry by locking the door when closed, cover the security basics.
The battery backup gap
Unlike the 87504, the 84505R ships without battery backup, so a power cut means manual release until service returns. Add myQ's subscription for stored video history, and the honest total cost sits above the headline; both are worth knowing before this otherwise complete opener goes on the ceiling.
