When a tracker stops updating, the cause is usually a dead battery, lost cellular signal, or an app issue rather than broken hardware. Work through these fixes in order.

Location has not updated for hours

Charge the tracker fully first; a depleted battery is the most common cause. Then check cellular coverage in the dog's area using your phone as a proxy. Force-close and reopen the app, since stale app sessions often stop refreshing. If the tracker has a live mode, enable it to force fresh position requests.

Battery drains much faster than advertised

Disable live-tracking mode except during active searches, as constant updates are the biggest drain. Reduce the location update frequency in settings and enable battery-save mode for routine days. Cold weather also shortens battery life; in winter, charge more often and keep the tracker on the dog rather than in a cold car.

Getting false escape alerts

GPS drift near buildings causes most false alarms. Enlarge the virtual fence so the boundary sits well clear of walls, and avoid placing fences tight against the property line. If alerts cluster at specific times, check whether the dog is actually near the boundary, on a porch or by a window, rather than assuming a malfunction.

Tracker shows the wrong location

Wait for a fresh update; displayed positions can lag several minutes behind reality. Move to open sky if you are holding the phone indoors, since your phone's own GPS affects map rendering. Persistent large errors usually mean weak cellular signal at the tracker's location; the position will correct when coverage improves.

Questions, answered

Why does the tracker work at home but not on trails?

Cellular dead zones. The tracker records positions and uploads them when signal returns, so you will see the trail after the fact but not live during the gap.

How do I know the subscription is active?

Check the account status in the app. An expired or suspended plan is a common silent cause of tracking failures; set up auto-renewal to avoid gaps.

The collar mount broke; what now?

Contact the manufacturer for replacement mounts before improvising. A tracker held on with zip ties or tape falls off exactly when you need it most.
