Our recommendation

Buy the SELPHY CP1500 for broader connectivity, SD card printing, battery portability and Canon media availability. Buy the Dock Plus if your household prints from phones at a fixed counter and loves the dock-and-charge ritual.

Print process and finish

Both are dye-transfer systems producing laminated, durable 4x6 prints: Canon's classic three-pass dye-sub with overcoat versus Kodak's 4PASS process. Side by side, differences are taste-level - Canon trends neutral, Kodak trends warm - and both shame inkjet 4x6 on handling durability.

Connectivity and sources

The SELPHY prints from Wi-Fi, AirPrint, USB and directly from SD cards with its own screen navigation. The Dock Plus centres the phone: dock connector printing and charging plus Bluetooth app printing. Camera-card shooters need the Canon; phone-only homes are served by either.

Portability and media

With its optional battery, the SELPHY works at picnics and weddings; the Dock Plus stays home by design. Canon KP media is stocked more widely; Kodak PHC bundles are competitive in multi-cart packs online.

Choose Canon SELPHY CP1500 if…

  • You print from camera SD cards as well as phones
  • You want battery portability for events
  • You value the widest media availability

Choose Kodak Dock Plus Instant Photo Printer if…

  • Your household prints from one or two phones at home
  • You like dock charging while printing
  • You prefer Kodak's warm print rendering

Questions, answered

Which has cheaper prints?

Close enough that bundle hunting decides it month to month. Buy media in the largest packs your usage justifies for either system.

Which is faster?

Comparable per print - both are dye-transfer metronomes around the half-minute to minute class per 4x6. Neither is an instant printer in the film sense.

Which prints last longer?

Both use laminated dye-transfer output rated for long album life under proper storage. Handling durability is excellent on both from day one.
