Bosch GLM400C Blaze Outdoor Connected Laser Measure Review (2027)
In-depth research review of the Bosch GLM400C: 400 ft range, viewfinder camera for outdoor targeting, and Bluetooth MeasureOn documentation.
Bosch GLM400C Blaze Outdoor Connected Laser Measure
A 400 ft outdoor laser with a viewfinder camera and Bluetooth app connection.
Our verdict
The GLM400C is Bosch's answer to the outdoor problem every red laser has: at 400 ft the dot is invisible in sunlight, so a viewfinder camera does the aiming. Add plus/minus 1/16 in accuracy, Bluetooth logging to the MeasureOn app, and IP54 sealing, and it is the most capable outdoor measure in this guide, at a premium indoor users should not pay.
What we like
- 400 ft range is the longest in this guide, with plus/minus 1/16 in accuracy
- Viewfinder camera lets you aim at distant targets the red dot cannot pick out in sunlight
- Bluetooth sends measurements to the Bosch MeasureOn app for documentation
- IP54 housing, 11 measuring functions, and memory for up to 50 measurements
What to watch out for
- Premium price and a larger body than indoor pocket measures
- Runs on 3 AA batteries rather than a rechargeable pack
- The camera is a targeting viewfinder, not a jobsite camera
What owners report: Bosch GLM400C Blaze Outdoor Connected Laser Measure
Synthesized from recurring themes in long-term owner feedback.
Most praised
- The viewfinder camera solves the daylight aiming problem that defeats every plain red dot tool here
- Four hundred feet of reach covers site and lot work in a single handheld tool
- Storing dozens of measurements plus app transfer suits survey style documentation days
Common complaints
- The premium price is hard to defend for anyone who measures inside four walls
- Three AA batteries feel old fashioned beside rechargeable rivals
- Anyone expecting job photos will be disappointed, since the camera exists only for aiming
Who it is for
Contractors, estimators, and site pros who measure outdoors and at long range as a core part of the job.
Range and the viewfinder
400 ft is the longest range in this guide, and the color display's viewfinder camera is what makes it usable: you aim at a zoomed image of the target instead of hunting for a washed-out dot. Accuracy holds at plus/minus 1/16 in, so long shots stay billable, not approximate.
Connected documentation
Bluetooth pairs the measure with Bosch's MeasureOn app, and the unit itself stores up to 50 measurements across 11 functions. For estimators walking a site solo, that combination replaces the notebook and the second trip back to re-measure the shot you forgot to write down.
Size, power, and who should skip it
IP54 sealing suits outdoor work, but the body is larger than pocket measures and it runs on 3 AA batteries. If your measuring is rooms and furniture, the GLM165-40 or GLM50C deliver the accuracy you need at a fraction of the size and price.

Questions, answered
Why does an outdoor laser need a camera?
Past roughly 100 ft in bright sun, the red dot is effectively invisible. The viewfinder camera shows a zoomed image so you can place the measurement on the exact target.
Does the GLM400C work with phone apps?
Yes, it connects over Bluetooth to the Bosch MeasureOn app for documenting and organizing measurements.
